COMPLEX REHAB TECHNOLOGY

Personalized Complex Rehab Technology Built Around You

Our ATP-led Complex Rehab team works with patients, caregivers, therapists, and physicians to coordinate custom power wheelchairs, custom manual wheelchairs, seating and positioning, and other mobility solutions based on each individual’s medical, functional, and environmental needs.

From evaluation and documentation through equipment configuration, delivery, fitting, and ongoing support, we stay involved throughout the process for both pediatric and adult clients.

What Is Complex Rehab Technology?

Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) includes individually configured power and manual wheelchairs, seating and positioning systems, and specialized controls designed for people with complex medical and functional needs. Each solution is selected and configured around the individual’s mobility, positioning, functional, and environmental needs.

Seating & Positioning

Customized cushions, back supports, positioning components, and other seating solutions help support posture, pressure management, comfort, and functional needs.

Customized Mobility

Individually configured power and manual wheelchairs can include power seating functions, specialty controls, and mobility components selected around the user’s needs and environment.

Access & Daily Function

The goal is to support safe mobility, positioning, access to daily activities, and greater participation at home and in the community.

COMPLEX MOBILITY NEEDS

Supporting Individuals With Complex Mobility Needs

Complex Rehab Technology may be appropriate for children and adults whose medical, functional, positioning, or mobility needs cannot be adequately met with standard mobility equipment. Our team works with the individual, caregivers, therapists, and physicians to help identify and configure the appropriate solution.

ALS

Progressive changes in strength and mobility may require customized seating, positioning, alternative controls, and power mobility that can adapt as needs change.

Multiple Sclerosis

Changes in strength, endurance, balance, and mobility may require individualized seating, positioning, and mobility solutions to support daily function.

Cerebral Palsy

Customized mobility and positioning can help address complex postural, motor, and functional needs for both pediatric and adult users.

Spinal Cord Injury

Individualized wheelchair configuration, seating, pressure management, and mobility technology can support positioning, function, and access throughout daily activities..

Stroke

When lasting weakness, positioning challenges, or mobility limitations remain after a stroke, customized seating and mobility equipment may help support safer functional mobility.

Parkinson’s Disease

As mobility, balance, posture, or motor control needs change, properly configured mobility and positioning equipment may provide additional support for daily function.

Muscular Dystrophy

Progressive weakness may require customized mobility, positioning, power seating functions, and equipment that can accommodate changing functional needs.

Spina Bifida

Customized wheelchairs and seating systems can address mobility, posture, pressure management, positioning, and long-term functional needs.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Depending on the individual’s physical, cognitive, positioning, and mobility needs, customized seating, controls, and mobility technology may support greater access and participation.

INSURANCE & DOCUMENTATION SUPPORT

We Help Navigate the Insurance & Documentation Process

Complex Rehab orders often require detailed documentation, clinical evaluations, prescriptions, and insurance authorization before equipment can be provided. Our team helps coordinate these requirements and keeps the process moving from referral through approval and delivery.

We can verify insurance benefits, review payer requirements, coordinate needed documentation with physicians and therapists, submit prior authorization requests when required, and provide status updates throughout the process. Coverage and authorization are subject to each insurance plan’s requirements and approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Complex Rehab Technology eligibility, insurance coverage, customization, delivery, and ongoing service.

How do I know if CRT may be appropriate for me?

Complex Rehab Technology may be appropriate when a medical condition creates significant mobility, positioning, or functional needs that cannot be adequately addressed with standard mobility equipment. A diagnosis alone does not determine eligibility. Your clinical needs, home environment, evaluation findings, insurance requirements, and the type of equipment being considered all play a role. Our team can help review the process and coordinate the required documentation.

Medicare Part B may cover medically necessary wheelchairs and related equipment when Medicare’s coverage requirements are met. For certain power mobility equipment, a face-to-face evaluation, written order, supporting documentation, and sometimes prior authorization are required. After the Part B deductible, Medicare generally pays 80% of the Medicare-approved amount when the supplier accepts assignment, leaving the beneficiary responsible for the remaining 20%. Other insurance may help with some or all of that remaining amount depending on the plan.

Timing varies by insurance plan, evaluation scheduling, documentation requirements, prior authorization, and the complexity of the equipment. Missing or incomplete documentation can also extend the process. Our team tracks each order, coordinates outstanding requirements, and provides status updates as the case moves through evaluation, documentation, authorization, equipment configuration, and delivery.

Complex Rehab wheelchairs are individually configured around the user’s medical, functional, positioning, and mobility needs. Depending on the evaluation and equipment being considered, options may include specialized seating and positioning, power seating functions, alternative drive controls, head supports, lateral supports, cushions, backs, and other accessories. The ATP works with the individual and clinical team to help determine the appropriate configuration, subject to medical necessity and payer coverage requirements.

At delivery, the equipment is fitted and adjusted to the individual, and the user and caregivers are shown how to operate and care for it safely. This may include reviewing controls, seating functions, charging, positioning, transfers, and routine equipment care. Our CRT team remains available after delivery for follow-up adjustments, questions, service, and repair needs.

Yes. We provide service and repair support for Complex Rehab and mobility equipment, including assistance with diagnostics, batteries, tires, controls, seating components, replacement parts, and other repair needs as appropriate. Insurance coverage and prior-authorization requirements for repairs vary by plan. When a repair requires additional time, we will discuss available options and next steps with you.
